History
“Your greatest call in life is humanity and servanthood”
Raised in the serene countryside of Arlington, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Jerome Gayle grew up inspired by the boundless generosity of his grandparents, Doris and Joseph Daly, who extended compassion and support to their community on a daily basis. Jerome vividly recalls his grandmother serving as the village nurse, tirelessly tending to laborers injured in the fields, while also providing clothing and warm meals to travelers who often stopped by. Similarly, his grandfather generously distributed essentials from his modest grocery store to those in dire need, a man of faith and a church planter.
Carrying these impactful visions of altruism, Jerome left Jamaica as an adult. Resettling in the UK, his birthplace, he continued his mission of service by aiding the local community in various capacities. However, driven by a desire to make a broader impact, Jerome moved to South Korea to serve as a missionary for four years, dedicating himself to spreading faith and assistance.
Despite his efforts, Jerome felt compelled to do even more. In 2017, he established " In My Backyard®," a 501(c)(3) organization based in the United States, aiming to extend his reach further. The organization has since made significant strides in supporting the homeless with essentials such as tents, sleeping mats, and hygiene kits. It also provides water filters, financial support, clothing, computers for low income areas, educational supplies to schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a healthcare facility in Kajiado, Kenya. Through these initiatives, the ministry continues to embody the spirit of giving Jerome learned from his grandparents, making a tangible difference in the lives of many across the globe.
